I came across a new collection where they really went for combining traditional Japanese silhouettes with urban functionality, and it all looked really powerful. I'm wondering - how comfortable is this and is it generally appropriate in the city?

I've seen guys and girls in kimonos like this a couple of times. Especially when you can see that it's not just for the sake of a photo, but really part of the lifestyle.
I got hooked on the techwear kimono theme about a year and a half ago, when I saw a guy in a black techwear kimono with a built-in hood from https://techwear-uk.com/collections/techwear-kimono at a street exhibition in Berlin. He didn’t look like he was from the catwalk, but rather like he just lived in this style. I came home and immediately started looking for something similar. In the end, I found some guys from Vilnius who make kimonos from membrane fabrics, but with the same overall silhouette. I got myself a dark gray one, with a deep wrap and long sleeves on magnets - it looks very authentic, but at the same time super functional. As for convenience - in the subway, on the street, in a cafe - I never felt out of place.
