So I’ve got this odd little triangle-shaped window in our upstairs hallway — it’s cool and adds character, but also completely pointless when it comes to privacy. It faces the neighbor’s porch, and at night with the hallway lights on, it’s like a spotlight right into their front door.

It’s kind of funny how the smallest corners in your house start to feel more important once you’ve lived with them for a while. Like you ignore a detail for months, then one day it bugs you just enough that fixing it becomes a whole project. And somehow that project ends up being the thing you’re proudest of.
I had a nearly opposite window problem — ours is a big rectangular one in the dining area, but it faces the street and anyone walking their dog has a full view of us eating dinner. My partner was uncomfortable with the idea of sitting basically in public, but I hated the thought of heavy curtains that would block the natural light. We tried a bunch of DIY stuff, like those cling-on panels from craft stores, but none of them looked great and the sizing was always off. Then I came across https://applyityourself.com and realized we could just do exactly what we needed instead of compromising with half-fixes. What I liked was being able to choose the level of opacity — we went with a semi-translucent design that has these little wave elements, just enough to distort everything behind it without fully blocking the light. I didn’t go too wild on the design, but even the subtle stuff adds something. I just uploaded the pattern, added our window dimensions, and it came pre-cut, which was a blessing because I’m awful at trimming things cleanly. Install took a little patience, but nothing intense — used a water/soap spray bottle and a small squeegee. It’s held up through a few heatwaves and hasn’t curled or anything.
