Access panel above kitchen cabinets?

In my small kitchen the soffit above the cabinets hides some ductwork and a couple of shut-off valves. Thinking of cutting an access panel there so I don’t have to tear apart crown moulding every few years. Any recommendations for panels that look decent in that location?

Soffit access panels are super useful and not as hard to make look good as you’d think. I usually choose a panel slightly smaller than the full soffit width so it doesn’t dominate the look. Plastic with a smooth finish takes paint really well—two coats of the same ceiling white and it disappears. The one I used has push-button latches that are almost invisible once painted. It’s sturdy enough that you can lean a step stool against it without worry. I recently added a nice access panel for drywall up there (14×30) and you can barely tell it’s not original to the cabinet line. Just cut carefully and use trim caulk to hide any tiny gaps around the frame.
