What kind of vision improvements can patients expect after a telescope implant?

I’ve recently been trying to learn more about possible treatments for severe vision loss because my grandmother has been struggling with macular degeneration for a while now. Over the past year her central vision has gotten noticeably worse, and things like reading labels, watching TV, or recognizing people across the room have become difficult for her. A friend of the family mentioned that some patients get a telescope implant in the eye to help with vision, which honestly surprised me because I didn’t realize something like that even existed. I’m curious what kind of improvements people usually notice after the procedure. Is it mainly about seeing larger details, or can it actually make daily activities easier again?

From what I understand after helping my uncle research similar options, the main improvement patients often notice is that objects in their central field of vision appear larger and clearer, which can make everyday things like reading big text, watching television, or recognizing faces easier than before. The implant doesn’t restore perfect vision, but it magnifies images so healthier parts of the retina can process them better. Usually one eye receives the telescope for detailed central vision while the other eye continues to help with peripheral awareness, and patients often go through vision rehabilitation to adapt to using both eyes together. When we were trying to understand the details, it helped a lot to visit website where the process and expected outcomes are explained in a simple way that families can understand.
